Like all good stories this one had humble beginnings with the first trees planted on the property over 30 years ago. The lush evergreen "Cupresses Macrocarpa" are visually stunning and have been featured in all forms of media both locally and internationally. The dense sculptured walls of the two hedge structures now stand two metres wide and three metres in height and are enjoyed by those who face the challenge to lose themselves.
Home to Australia's oldest and largest traditional hedge mazes Ashcombe also features the first circular rose maze of its kind in the world. 1200 rose bushes specifically chosen for their colour and perfume make this maze a sensory delight and challenge.
Ashcombe boasts over 10 themed garden areas set on 25 acres along with a fully licensed cafe and garden terrace and gift shop and is more than a maze!
Ashcombe's resident gnome Mazey Mike has become legendary with his Great Gnome Hunt. It's up to the Great Gnome Hunter to look high, look low, look all around and see if they can find Mazey Mike's lost gnome friends and write their names down! All Great Gnome Hunters are rewarded for their efforts! Lots of fun for young and old alike!
Delight in the new Ashcombe Fairy Walk opened in September 2004 where fairies live amongst masses and masses of bluebells.
So whether it is Summer, Autumn, Winter or Spring - there is always something to be experienced through the seasons of the ever-changing face of Ashcombe.
"ORIGINALITY; "Power of Creating". The greatest compliment for any business is to be copied. Ashcombe Maze was the first Hedge Maze planted in Australia in over 100 years. Others have followed and as all great ideas do, ours grew and grew. The Maze Keeper |
